In which case we can say that a worker is being discriminated?Explain it.
Introduction
In the recent times, the world is seeing increased globalization and people find jobs across the globe, with some having access to even those that are posted in different countries.
With the demand for products and services at all-time highs, people are getting more jobs and have easier access of becoming associated with overall development which takes place in the country.
Over a period of time, discrimination among workers has significantly reduced, owing to the government intervention and by laws that aim at equality, justice and ensuring that workers are treated fairly at work place.
We can reasonably say that a worker is discriminated in the following cases:-
1) When there is unequal payment for equal work done.
Without going into any details, if a worker is paid differently for equal work done or at a similar designation, we can say that he/she has been discriminated with.
2) Gender Bias:-
Gender dynamics play a huge role in overall discrimination. It is a known fact, that in developing or underdeveloped countries, wherein the quality of work requires labor, women are highly underpaid when compared to the male counterpart. This is referred to as gender discrimination in which a particular worker is paid higher, just because he belongs to another gender, or there is existence of pay differences among genders.
3) Caste/Religion Bias:-
This is another type of discrimination in which a worker is discriminated on the basis of the religion which he follows or the caste to which he belongs. This can be done directly in the selection process or as part of the day to day life of a person within an organization if selected.
In this sense, each individual is different and companies must acknowledge this difference and accept the fact that religion or caste cannot be used as a means to restrict people and their growth. This is more prevalent in countries such as India and the Middle East where caste systems and religion are deep rooted but may also be found in developing countries.
4) Economic Weaker Sections:-
At times there is a case, wherein economically weaker sections are not given free access to employment opportunities even when they are equally educated and have the same skill set which may be required to make them successful at their workplace respectively. This results in further discrimination.
Conclusion:-
Thus, the fact that people are in the recruitment or selection or even in daily working life dealt with differently just because, they do not belong to a particular ideology or do not match the standards of those managing them at workplace, can mean that discrimination has taken place. This can also be on the basis of religion or many other reasons such as personal bias of the managers among others.
