There are five group of microorganisms that are; 1. Bacteria, 2. Fungi, 3. Algae, 4. Protozoa and 5. Viruses.

Phenotypically they are classified on the basis of their size, shape, appearance and mode of nutrition that is significance of food also their type of nutrition.
