In eukaryotes, the genomic DNA with very long. In order to fit into the nucleus of the cell, they are organized in a very condensed form. This form is attained by wrapping of the DNA around histone octomer (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4) forming the nucleosomes.

The second result of chromosome organizaion would be regulation of gene expression.
