Introduction - Currently we know that data is playing a key role over the internet all over the places. So in this way we can conclude that the use of data is a key thing in the recent days. By the use of data many things are getting done easily and there are quite disadvantages too which are very clear in this internet generation.

The data privacy over PHI and EHR's are protected by many laws. which were enacted for the protection of the data privacy and confidentiality of patient's medical records. HIPAA has enacted some privacy and security rules and norms for protecting the privacy of the patient's medical records.

There are cases where data breaches occurred and the major threats include the theft of the data, improper access of data, unauthorized disposal of data and hacking were considered as the primary and major concerns which occurred by the data breaches in the healthcare industry.

For achieving data privacy in healthcare industry, many acts and rules were framed and enacted by the HIPAA. HIPAA protects the electronic medical records and also HIPAA is also considered as the federal law which also has privacy rules and regulations enacted for the protection of data.

The main role of HIPAA and HITHEC is to ensure that all the healthcare institutions are applying the provisions realting to the maintenance of the electronic health care records and providing refunds or reimbursements for the actual and prescribed use of medical records in the electronic form.
