Answer #1

In LC-MS and GC-MS;

SIM indicates selected ion monitoring in which mass spectrometer is adjusted to scan in a very small mass range. Only compounds of specific mass are detected and recorded. The SIM is more sensitive in comparison to full scan measurement.

SRM is selected reaction monitoring and is used for quantification using mass spectrometer.Through this an unique ion is monitored and quantified from the complicated matrix. This is highly specific and sensitive technique and is used for quantitation of biological samples like proteins, peptides etc., SRM unlike SIM is a product ion scan which is related to monitoring and detection of daughter ions.
