Why is standard deviation important for scientists to measure? (an example or two would be helpful here) 2. Give one example of a variable on which a large' standard deviation is beneficial AND one example of a variable on which a 'small' standard deviation is beneficial. Briefly explain why each example is 'correct-again, DO NOT USE EXAMPLES FROM THE TEXT, FROM THE VIDEOS, OR FROM LECTURES!!! Make your words count! Standard deviation(s) helps us know whether the data are close to the average or whether the data are spread out over a wide range

The average starting salary of $70,000 is great but if the standard deviation of the salaries is $20,000, that’s a lot of variation. On the other hand, if the standard deviation was only $5,000, you would have a much better idea of what to expect for a starting salary at that company.

Suppose two sets of data have the same average but the 2 data sets need not be same. For example, the data sets 199, 200, 201 and 0, 200, 400 both have the same average (200) but s=1 for 1^st data set s=200 for 2^nd one.

NOTE: I have not counted the numerical values in the word count.
