You have done a market research study for a local restaurant by surveying 50 customers. You asked several Likert-type scaled questions, requesting level of agreement with a series of statements (where 1 = completely disagree and 7 = completely agree). These questions include:

X1: I liked the food at the restaurant. (respond on a 1-7 scale)

X2: I liked the service at the restaurant. (respond on a 1-7 scale).

Your results are in the Excel spreadsheet “Customer Satisfaction Study Part 1.”

You think there might be a difference between how much people like the food and how much they like the service and you will do a statistical analysis to see if the difference is significant.

Part 1--State the null and alternate hypotheses in plain English sentences (not equations).

Part 2--Using Excel or any statistical package you are familiar with, do the appropriate statistical analysis to determine if these two variables are significantly different from each other. Clearly justify your choice of statistical analysis. Print out the computer results.

Part 3--Can you reject the null hypothesis? Why or why not? Make a brief recommendation to management based on your findings.

Answer #1

Null Hypothesis H0 : The liking for food and service are independent (i.e) correlation coefficient=0

Alternative Hypothesis H1 :The liking of food and service are dependent (ie)correlation coefficient 0

Level of significance = 0.05

Since it is a ordinal data ,we may use of Spearmen rank correlation coefficient,rs = .077

To test for significance of rs ,t test is used .

The p value is .594

Since p value > 0.05 ,we accept null hypothesis and we can conclude that the liking of food and service are indepenfind and the recommendation is that the restaurant can continue their services without depending on one and another

Customer Service. A customer service department asks its customers to rate their over-the-phone service on a scale of 1-20 immediately after their service has been completed. The department then matches each customer’s rating with the number of minutes the person waited on hold. The file “Hold” on d2l contains data for the ratings and number of minutes on hold for 20 customers. As demonstrated in the lecture, please create a subset data of size 16 and perform your statistical analysis...

Suppose a study was done to replicate the results of the 2003 study by Wansink et al. in Physiology & Behavior. Participants were asked to rate different food items as “comfort foods” on a scale of 1 = strongly disagree to 5 = strongly agree. Results are displayed below for participants’ ratings of “Vegetables, Casseroles, Sides” as comfort food. Is there evidence that at least one age group has a different average rating for “Vegetables, Casseroles, Sides” as comfort food?...
