1) A particular 12 V car battery can send a total charge of 84 A h (ampere-hours) through a circuit, from one terminal to the other. (a) How many coulombs of charge does this represent? (Hint: current = ) (b) If this entire charge undergoes a change in electric potential of 12 V, how much energy is involved?

Answer #1
Given that the potential of car battery is V = 12 V
The total charge is 84 Ah
----------------------------------------------------------
Now the charge q related to current I as
             I = q /t
             q = I x t
                = 84 A.h
                = 84*60*60s A.s
                = 302400 C
Since one hour = 60min = 60*60s = 3600s
--------------------------------------------------------
The energy involved
        U = q *V
            = 302400 C *12 V
            = 3628800 J

    A circuit consists of a 6-pif capacitor, a 12 m-F capacitor, a 12-V battery, and a switch, connected as shown in Figure 24-14. Initially, the switch is open and the capacitors are uncharged. The switch is then closed and the capacitors charge. When the capacitors are fully charged and open-circuit terminal volt- age is restored, (a) what is the potential of each conductor in the circuit? (Choose the zero-potential reference point on the negative battery terminal.) If the potential of...

    Electrial Potential of a Battery oc It increases the potential of the battery Learning Goal: To understand electrical potential, electrical potential energy, and the relationship between them. Submit Previous Answers Correct Electric potential and electric potential energy are related but different concepts. Be careful not to confuse the terms. Electrical potential energy UE is the potential energy that a charge q has due to its position relative to other charges. The electric potential V at a specific position is a...
