The drugs that reduce the normal functioning of any neurotransmitter are called as antagonists. The antagonist drug blocks the activation of receptors by their neurotransmitters. They are sometimes referred to as receptor blockers. The antagonists are the agents that bind to the receptors, but do not activate it. They block binding of the natural ligand.
