Solutions For An Introduction to Brain and Behavior Chapter 4 Problem 4R3

Step-by-Step Solution

Solution 1

The dendrites of the cell body receive the stimulus, but the cell body does not contain voltage-sensitive ion channels. So the impulse travels from the cell body or dendrites towards the axon hillock.

However, dendrites of some neurons contains voltage-sensitive channels, which allow the movement of ions. So, the action potential generated at the axon hillock travels back into the dendritic fields of the neuron, which is known as “back propagation.”
