A biogeochemical cycle is a circuit or pathway by which chemical element or molecule moves through biotic (“bio”) and abiotic (“geo”) compartments of an ecosystem. All chemical elements occurring in organisms are part of biogeochemical cycles.
Carbon cycle – by the process of decomposition, fire, or by respiration enters into the atmosphere.
Again enters into the organic compounds by the process of photosynthesis.
Nitrogen cycle – by the process of N – fixation, is converted to (atmospheric nitrogen to plant utilizable nitrate).
This organic nitrogen is converted into inorganic forms when it re-enters the biogeochemical cycle via decomposition.
