This project enables you to practice creating a new user in Mac OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard. (The ability to provide hints should be enabled by default.)

To create a new user in Mac OS X:

1. Click System Preferences in the Dock or with Finder open, click the Go menu, click Applications, and double-click System Preferences.

2. Double-click Accounts under System. What accounts are already created?

3. If the lock at the bottom of the screen is locked, click it to unlock it (if requested provide your account name, password, and click OK).

4. Click the + (Add) button.

5. Enter your full name for the account plus “test,” such as Janice Peeletest.

6. Enter an account name or use the default name that appears when you move the cursor or Tab to the Account name box.

7. Enter and verify a password for the account.

8. Enter a hint to help you remember the password (see Figure 10-27).

9. Click Create Account. (If you see a message from which to turn off automatic login or keep it, consult with your instructor about what to select.) Look for the account you created in the left pane of the Accounts window.

10. Click the System Preferences menu and click Quit System Preferences. Close any other open windows.
