Two blocks of masses m1 and m2 hang at the ends of a string that passes over the very light pulley with low friction bearings shown in Figure P3.74. Determine an expression in terms of the masses and any other needed quantities for the magnitude of the acceleration of each block and the force that the string exerts on each block. Apply the equation for two cases: (a) the blocks have the same mass, but one is positioned lower than the other and (b) the blocks have different masses, but the heavier block is positioned higher than the light one. What assumptions did you make?
