Inflammation in children. A study published in the American Journal of Physical Anthropology (May 2014) compared the level of inflammation of boys and girls residing in rural Nepal. The C-reactive protein level (a measure of inflammation called CRP, in milligrams per liter) was determined for each in a sample of 209 boys and 217 girls. The researchers used the nonparametric Wilcoxon rank sum test to compare the CRP distributions of boys and girls as opposed to the large-sample z-test for comparing two means of Chapter 8. Histograms of CRP for the two samples are reproduced below. Assume that the decision to use the nonparametric test was based solely on these histograms. Do you agree with the choice? Explain.
