Considering Air-Conditioning Applications
Figure P12.98 shows two options for conditioning atmospheric air at steady state. In each case, air enters at 15°C, 1 atm, and 20% relative humidity with a volumetric flow rate of 150 m3/min and exits at 30°C, 1 atm, and 40% relative humidity. One method conditions the air by injecting saturated water vapor at 1 atm. The other method allows the entering air to pass through a soaked pad replenished by liquid water entering at 20°C. The moist air stream is then heated by an electric resistor. For T0 = 288 K, which of the two options is preferable from the standpoint of having less exergy destruction? Discuss.
