First World War bears a huge increase in the popularity, growth and scope of psychology of industrial-organization. Scott provided his services to the army of US and established a scale of rating for selection of captains of army on the basis of his tests in order to rate leaders of business.
Near the finish of the war, he had calculated the qualifications for job of millions of soldiers, and his research gave another hugely publicized instance of pragmatic wrath of psychology.
After the end of the war, industry, government and business agitated for the services provided by psychologists of industries to identify their procedures which were personal and to prepare tests for psychology for helping in selection of employees who were best.
Second World War brought all the more psychologists in the work of war for screening, classifying and testing recruits. Also, by that time the war weapons like aircrafts with high-speed became increasingly complicated, needing people with good skills for operations.
The requirement for identifying such personnel of military possessing the ability of learning the needed skills drove psychologists for refining their training and selection procedures.
These requirements of war generated a novel specialty in the psychology of industry differently called psychology of engineering, engineering of humans, engineering of human factors or ergonomics.
Psychologists of engineering function closely with engineers of systems of weapons for supplying information regarding limitations and capacities of humans. Work done by them directly dominates the equipment design of military for making it compatible with the people’s abilities for using it.
