The visual pathways from the extra striate cortex proceed to the parietal and temporal lobes, which form the dorsal and ventral streams.
The dorsal stream carrying information to the parietal lobe processes the visual information of movement. Severe deficits in visually guided reaching (dorsal stream) is known as “optic ataxia.”
The ventral stream carrying information to the temporal lobe processes the visual information of objects. Severe deficits in ventral stream impairs the object recognition process.
