The term “synapse” refers to the junction between two structures that send and receive impulses from one to the other. Depending upon the type of message conveyed by the synapse, they are classified into two types namely,
• Excitatory or type I synapses (typically located on the shafts or the spines of the dendrites)
• Inhibitory or type II synapses (typically located on a cell body)
