Depending upon the availability of sunlight, the ocean is divided into two zones. They are: photic zones and aphotic zone. Along with this, depending upon the depth and distance from the ocean shore, an ocean is divided into four more zones. They include the Inter tidal zone, the coastal ocean, the open ocean, and benthic zone.
Abiotic factors that influence each zone are as follow:
1. Photic zone: Sufficient Sunlight and Ocean waves.
2. Aphotic zone: Absence of sunlight, high ocean pressure.
3. Inter-tidal zone: Ocean waves and temperature.
4. The coastal zone: Availability of sunlight and low depth.
5. Coral reefs: shallow water, high sunlight.
6. The open ocean: High pressure, frigid temperature.
