The Daily Timesnewspaper company serves a small community. A considerable portion of the newspaper’s revenues come from advertising. At present, all advertising orders are taken by salespeople, usually at the customers’ places of business. At the end of every 3 days, all advertising orders are processed in a batch. Therefore, it normally takes 4 days between the time the orders are taken and the time the ad appears in the newspaper. Recently, however, a competitive newspaper has offered faster service to its customers.
