DNA-reading tool for quick identification of species. A biologist and a zoologist at the University of Florida were the first scientists to test the effectiveness of a high-tech handheld device designed to instantly identify the DNA of an animal species ( PLOS Biology , Dec. 2005). They used the DNA-reading device on tissue samples collected from mollusks with brightly colored shells. The scientists discovered that the error rate of the device is less than 5 percent. Set up the null and alternative hypotheses if you want to support the findings.
