Give the percent yield when 28.16 g of CO2 are formed from the reaction of 4.000 moles of C8H18 with 4.000 moles of O2.

2 C8H18 + 25 O2 → 16 CO2 + 18 H2O

Answer #1

The percent yield of CO2 would be,

25%

Details: If all of C8H18 has reacted we would need = 4 x 25/2 = 50 mols of O2

If all of O2 has reacted we would require = 2 x 4/25 = 0.32 mols C8H18

Since we have less moles of O2 available then required this is the limiting reagent

theoretical yield of CO2 = 4 x 16/25 = 2.56 mols

theretical mass of CO2 produced = 112.66 g of CO2

So the percent yield of reaction = (28.16/112.66) x 100 = 25.0%
