Drug template
Medication due for 2nd week are :-
1. Epinephrine - is used in emergency cases of allergic reactions, it increases heart rate ,blood pressure ,improves breathing ,relives hives etc.
Complication- renal ischemia, dysrhythmia, severe hypertension, hypokalemia, hyperglycemia , myocardial necrosis.
Contraindications - labor arrow angle glaucoma , individuals with organic brain disease , shock , coronary insufficiency , breast feeding mothers
Medication administration - administered intramuscularly and intravenously .
Nursing interventions- Assess the vitals before administration .
- Assess or monitor for cardiac output , heart rate , pulmonary artery pressure .
- Monitor for hepatotoxicity , thrombocytopenia , arrhythmia , hypotension .
- Document the administration after giving the medicine
- Teach patient the side effects of the medicines and when to reach doctor
- Teach patient about medication compliance
2. Albuterol - is used for bronchoconstriction and asthma .
Complications - tachycardia, cardiac dysarrythmia ,allergic reaction
Contraindication- Hypersensitivity, cardiac dysarrythmia
Medication administration - By aerosol ( inhaler ) , intravenous route , nebulized inhalation or dry powder
Nursing intervention - Assess the vitals of the patient before hand after administration of medicine
- Monitor for side effects , dyspnea ,hypoxia
- Teach the patient about the side effects and drug compliance and when to reach doctor in case of emergency.
- Document after administration of drug .
- increase fluid intake to loosen the secretion
- teach patient controlled coughing
- eliminate pulmonary irritant
- teach patient effective breathing techniques
- avoid emotional disturbance
- instruct patient to adapt to moderate lifestyle activity
3. Metoprolol - is a beta blocker ,used to decrease blood pressure.
Complication - hypotension, cardiac dysarrrythmia, tachycardia ,dizziness
Contraindication - in individuals with low blood pressure , those who are in shock , hemorrhage
Nursing intervention - Assess the vitals of the patient before and after administration
- Monitor for side effects of the medicine like hypotension, dizziness , shock etc
- Teach patient about drug compliance and warning signs of aide effect
- Document after administration of medicine
4. Bathanechol - is a cholinergic agent , it's major action on the smooth muscularature of the bladder ,GIT , causing increased intestinal motility and tone .
Complication - bronchoconstriction , bradycardia , sweating ,salivation , diarrhoea etc
Contraindication - bronchial asthma , peptic ulcer , angina pectoris , incontinence , intestinal obstruction , pregnancy , hypotension , epilepsy , bradycardia etc
Nursing intervention - Assess the vitals of the patient before and after administering the medicine
- Monitor for side effects like bradycardia , breathing difficulty , abdominal pain etc
- Teach patient about the importance and side effects of medicine
- Document after administration of the drug .
