Introduction

This platform might be the next big thing for the airline industry. A platform that helps in proper accountability and tracking of different inventory and other essential parts. This type of platform is in need of the hour because all airline companies are striving for efficiency. To have better efficiency, they need to have better controls and accountability. But it is not that feasible for them to have a proper framework and to implement the same. The design of framework is very important as a single error might have multiple implications, both reversible and irreversible. To avoid this situation, this system is developed to provide better control and accountability and thus increasing efficiency.

Problem

The major problem is proper record maintenance and their communication for the same. One of the most important thing to consider here is materiality. The inventory parts have different values and different usage guidelines. Many companies fail to understand or differentiate between material and non-material inventory parts. In the same cycle, we have one more problem that is authorization for issuing these inventory items. Many a times it is very common to have proper authorization and communication charts. But following these charts and guidelines might need investment of time and other staffing resources as well. It becomes difficult to establish a tracking system or a audit trail in these scenarios because of lack of strict controls.

Goals

Goal 1: to provide a system which records the inventory count and values.

Goal 2: to have proper access controls for user interface, so that only the authorized person are issued these items and in case of multiple stages of item flow, all parties are accounted for.

Goal 3: to get real time updates via this platform for exact inventory location.

Goal 4: tagging of high value items

Goal 5: to help users adopt new system by creating a user friendly application.

For example: when an inventory part for staff cabin is received, an entry shall be made to platform. It would display inventory count as +1. In case of an expiry date, the system shall be equipped to notify alerts whenever required. When this item is issued to any person, lets say Mr A, the item shall have a count of zero. And then it would show the date and time at which it was issued to Mr A. also, it would display that with whose authorization, this was issued. The platform also has a input and confirmation mail tab which helps it users to get and save confirmations or approvals for various tasks.

Cost

The major cost would include system design and maintenance. First step would be deciding whether to develop this in house or outsource it to third party. Both options have pros and cons. Developing system in house means that we need to hire staff and also take care of buying certifications and registrations. Outsourcing has its own advantages as professional experts shall take care of all certifications, privacy and security concerns. on an average outsourcing such platform would need close to 15000 USD excluding price for maintenance.
