VULNERABLE POPULATION : Vulnerable population is defined as patients who are children, under insured people, backward minorities, elderly, socioeconomically disadvantaged people, poor people suffering with medical diseases. The members have health problems in higher level.
The nurse can advocate vulnerable population based on societal backgrounds who needs more attention and care of health services. Populations who are under privilege in receiving of health services has to identify and immediate health care services has to take place as soon as possible. Based on the environmental resources nurse has to plan for health care which are useful for population.
FOR EXAMPLE : Nurse is conducting health program on prevention of dehydration in summer season , she can explain about home remedies without going to hospital. How can we prevent dehydration? Simply by using of water, lemon, salt and sugar we can prepare home remedy rich in high electrolytes taken from environmental resources. The treatment can be taken by all kinds of age group without spending a a rupee.
UNDER SERVED POPULATION : Under served population is defined as population which includes backward classes, low income people or people living to geographical isolation. Nurse can advocate under served people by listing out different age groups, sex ratio of male and female, who are at low backward classes of society, disrespect from society and providing basic health care services to all people.
FOR EXAMPLE : Person who is suffering with leprosy is isolated from geographical areas due to their disease. To protect the health of under served people nurse has to plan services/ care which is essential for life. Availability of health resources are a great impact on health of people. Nurse should not do any kind of such activities which damage boundaries . Hence it is important to to balance between vulnerable and under served populations.
