Question

Two experimental groups of the same genetic strain of mice are being used for toxicological experiments. Each group of mice is administered the same single oral dose of a xenobiotic and monitored for acute lethality. After 4 days, all of the mice in one group are dead and all of the mice in the other group are alive. Provide six explanations for the difference in susceptibility of these two groups of mice. (2 marks each, 12 marks total) 4. a) b) c) d) e)

Answer #1

a)Whe a poor or deficient xenobiotic metablmetabolism occurs it can affect the life of the mice

b)Afer xenobiotic administration the toxic level has to be decreased but if it increases it can endanger the life and this is called as inactivation

c)When the organism has a disruption in hepatic enzymes the xenobiotic cannot be excreted leading to death of the host

d)Nutritional status of the group also can be considered

e) Environmental exposures plays a vital role in the toxicology exoexperimental study

f)Chemical disruption after the administration of xenobiotic can be a reason

    3. (20 points Zar (1999) describes a setting in which it's desired to compare two different drugs to see which drug makes blood clot faster in samples taken from 12 people with hemophilia (one sample of blood per person) who agreed to be part of the study. Here are three possible experimental designs for this situation, (R-32) • Design 1: 6 of the people are assigned to drug B and 6 to drug G at random. • Design 2: The...

Quantitative trait loci(QTL) are: The loci that contribute all of the variation in a continuous trait The loci that contribute all of the genetic variation in a continuous trait The loci that contribute the broad-sense heritability in a continuous trait The loci that contribute the narrow-sense heritability in a continuous trait 6. We looked at a study where Drosophila flies were selected for phototaxis (either attracted to or repelled by light). This experiment measures how much genetic variation existed...

Hello, I just need a change to the words for each one of the paragraphs, to say the same thing but with other words. Please and thank you The intestinal microbiota plays a crucial role in the maintenance of gut homeostasis. Changes in crosstalk between the intestinal epithelial cells, immune cells and the microbiota are critically involved in the development of inflammatory bowel disease. In the experimental mouse model, the development of colitis induced by dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) promotes...

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
