A patient has been told that he has a terminal illness, but a new medication for the illness has just been introduced for experimental use by a teaching facility nearby. The physician has told the patient that he must make a decision about whether to try this medication. As the patient leaves the office, he turns to you and asks what you would do and how he should respond to this matter. He states that he has been told that the medication may prolong his life, but his quality of life may suffer. How do you respond to the patient?

Eventhough the patient may have a terminally ill condition , after taking that medication he may lose his quality of life . Quality of life is the general wellness . Any treatment should be health promoting , when the quality of life is deteriorated by prolonging life there is no goodness in it. Longer life span without quality of life is poor.
He may undergo lots of troubles at end stage of illness ,any intervention that prolongs life in poor health or results in a poor quality of life will be a burden . Extra years with good health will be wonderful.To be logical everyone likes good and not bad .
But some patients may agree for this, some studies have proved patients with terminal illness treated with a new drug has thrived and felt better with prolonging life span
