In a procedure meant to measure the amount of glyphosate absorbed by soil, 10.0 mL of a 1000 ppm solution of glyphosate was added to 500.0 g of dry soil and allowed to sit overnight. The next day, 1 L of water was run through the soil, collected and filtered to remove all of the soil. How much glyphosate was originally add to the soil in units of mg?

Answer #1

1 ppm means 1 mg/L

1000 ppm means 1000 mg/L

1000 mL of glyphosate solution = 1000 mg of glyphosate

10 mL of glyphosate solution = (1000 mg/1000 mL)*10 mL

= 10 mg

So, originally 10 mg of glyphosate was added.
