CuCl2(aq) + 2 NaNO3(aq) \rightarrow Cu(NO3)2(aq) + 2 NaCl(aq)

(b)

Number of moles of NaNO3 = 20.0g/84.99g/mol = 0.2353mol

Number of moles of CuCl2 = 15.0g/134.452g/mol = 0.11156mol

Number of moles of NaNO3 required to completely react with CuCl2 = 0.2231mol . Hence the given NaNO3 present is in excess.

Theoretical yield of NaCl = number of moles of CuCl2 × 2 = 0.2231mol = 0.2231mol×58.4428g/mol = 13.04 g

Theoretical yield of NaCl = 13.04 g. (Answer)

Limiting reagent is CuCl2 .

(d)

% yield of reaction = 11.3g/13.04g × 100% = 86.65 %

= 86.7 %
