Why do you think humans have always developed religious beliefs and rituals?
(Though it's not related to the core subject, I can't resist myself to answer this particular question.)
First of all, religions and related activities are the ancient form of our modern "Science". In that time, people weren't well informed about most of the natural phenomenons. They started believing the role of a supreme being behind each and every activities performed in the universe. Probably that's how man-made "God" was born! As a part of satisfying the absolute being, they developed the rituals and try to follow them to get rid from the natural calamities and misfortunes. These beliefs and activities are flowing from a generation to the next. In that way, once this man-made rules became a profound part of human civilisation.
