These behaviors increase the morbidity and mortality rate among adolescent. Adolescent involved in adverse sexual activities. It increases the Sexually transmitted disease and increased pregnancy rate in female adolescents. Adolescence is carrying a weapon and involved in violence because of the lack of social attraction and involvement. Poor environmental factors and lack of family care leads to Increased use of alcohol and drunk and driving results in the motor vehicle accident. Use of substance and drug due to the peer group pressure leads to loss of cognitive control and results in more suicidal thoughts. Lack of nutrition and smoking increases their risk for number of chronic diseases.
The nurses have the responsibility in preventing these behaviors by taking necessary measures. Health education, good communication, proper counseling helps to minimize the risks. Nurses must assure for confidentiality to get adequate support from the adolescent. Proper sexual and reproductive teaching is essential for all teenagers. Parents should be involved in guiding and supporting of adolescent and to inform if any behavior changes have seen.
