a) Specific heat : Amount of heat required to raise temperature by 10c or 1 K of unit mass of a substance .

Unit : J/goc .

b)

Heat flows from hot body to cold body.

C)

M is mass of water.

SH is specific heat.

\DeltaT is temperature change.

d)

q = M× SH × \Delta T.

e)

Temperature change of hot water

= Final temperature - initial temperature = (27 -98.5) = - 71.5oc

Temperature change of cold water

= Final temperature - initial temperature = ( 27 -25) = 2oc

Now

Mass of hot water × specific heat × temperature change

= - (Mass of cold water × specific heat × temperature change + Calorimeter constant × temperature change ) .

Slecific heat of water = 4.184 J/goc.

Putting the given values

100 × 4.184 × ( 27 - 98.5) = - {( 80.3 × 4.184) × (27 - 25) + C× (27 - 25}

Or, - 29915.6 = - {(335.97 ×(2) + C×(2)}

Or, 29915.6 = 671.95 + 2C

Or 2C = (29915.6 - 671.95)

Or, 2C = 29244.1

Or, C = (29244.1/2)

Or, C = 14622.05 J/K.

Or, C = 14.62 KJ/K.
