Answer #1

2)

a)

Mg(s) + HCl (aq) -> MgCl2 (aq) + H2(g)

b)

Mg(s) + HCl (aq) -> MgCl2 (aq) + H2(g)

Balance Cl:

Mg(s) + 2 HCl (aq) -> MgCl2 (aq) + H2(g)

The equation is now balanced:

Mg(s) + 2 HCl (aq) -> MgCl2 (aq) + H2(g)

c)

Oxidation state of Mg is changing from 0 to +2

So, it is oxidised

Oxidation state of H is changing from +1 to 0

So, it is reduced

Since both and oxidation is taking place, this is redox reaction

Answer: redox
