Question

Create two excel graphs and descriptive statistics:

1 - Descriptive Statistics using data from attached file (Males) and appropriate graph.

2 - Descriptive Statistics using data from attached file (Females) and appropriate graph.

Create appropriate titles and grid lines Identify a variable to be used as a basis for comparison between the two genders. Do not use age or Blood Pressure. Create an appropriate graph. Are there any outliers? Check for the outliers by creating the 5 number summary doing the calculations by hand. Do both sets of data have the properties that are basically the same? Are there any significant differences? Why might this be? Write a brief paragraph which includes your conclusions.

Answer #1

Descriptive statistics is as follows:

COMPARISON
Males Minimum 17.27 3 3 & 12 are chosen any random number just for the sake of plotting
Quartile1 21.755 3
Median 26.53 3
Quartile3 29.74 3
Maximum 38.45 3
Females Minimum 17.62 12
Quartile1 23.65 12
Median 26.505 12
Quartile3 31.7525 12
Maximum 47.24 12
Median BMI is approximately same for both males and females.
Male Female
AVERAGE 26.6005 28.44075
KURTOSIS -0.70028 0.196496
VARIANCE 28.72362 54.67236
SKEWNESS 0.193294 0.900222

Variance differs. Data for both males and females is negatively and positively skewed respectively (value of skewness is less than (Males) & greater than zero for females) and platy-kurtic (since value of kurtosis is less than 3). [See Table above]

OUTLIERS

From the line graph below outliers can been distinctly seen.

Points 11,18,24,35,38 (HIGH) & 9,10,21 (LOW) are outliers for females.Similarly, outliers can be observed for males, point 10 and 25.

Concluding Points:

One of the reasons for such significant difference---BMI between Males and Females is due to HT (Hypertension) higher in men compared to women, Weight etc. Various other factors responsible for difference.
