When an individual becomes a member of an union group, there are some costs involved such as the individual looses work flexibility as the individual will have to toe the line of union. The individual also has to pay monthly fees to be a part of the union. Also whenever the union calls for a strike, the individual has to participate in the strike.

The benefits of union membership are equitable wages, protection from hostile management, Job stability .

Due to the collective bargaining from union, members belonging to the union get equitable wages, they are also protected from management actions that hurt their interests and also get job stability as management would be more cautious when laying off employees.
