Exposure to excess sun rays can cause sun burns and increase risk of skin cancer later in life hence they need protection whenever they are exposed to sun rays

Protection against Sun Protection

  • Use of broad spectrum sunscreen. That should be applied half an hour before going out to play and reapplying it as per the instruction
  • Shade: Allowing child to play in shade or indoors or within a tent or umbrella or tree especially in the middle of the day
  • Use of cotton clothes that can completely cover the kids arms and legs
  • Use of sunglasses to protect the eyes
  • Rehydrating the kid often to avoid added complications
  • Taking immediate necessary precautions if child turns pink or sun burn/tan will happen
  • Use of wide brimmed hats
  • To make the kids play before 10 am or after 4 pm

Cons of Sun Exposure

  • Excessive exposure to UV rays can cause damage to the retina and early development of Cataracts
  • Heat Stroke/Heat Exhaution
  • Manifests as Elevated body temperature , Headache, Nausea, Dizziness, Weakness, Increased thirst and later Heat stroke which manifests as Confusion, altered mental status, seizures, slurred speech, Loss of consciousness (coma)
  • Sun Burns
  • Occurs after few hours of sun exposure and has redness, pain and later skin exfoliation of skin
  • Long Term exposure can cause skin cancers such as Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC), Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC), Malignant Melanoma, Increased incidence in Wrinkles/Aging: Associate wrinkles with aging,
