Isothermal expansivity (α) = 1/V (\partialV/\partialT)p

Therefore,

α / kT = - ( \partial V/\partialT)p / (\partialV/\partialP)T

= (\partialT/\partialV)p / (\partialV/\partialP)T -----(1)

Since, V = f (T, P)

Therefore, according to Euler reciprocity relation,

(\partialT/\partialV)p . (\partialV/\partialP)T. (\partialP/\partialT)v = -1 -----(2)

Thus, from equation 1 and 2,

α / kT= (\partialT/\partialP)v
