ethyl acetate or dichloromethane are organic solvents and these are less polar organic solvents.

density of CH2Cl2 = 1.33 g / ml

and

density of ethyl acetate = 0.902 g / ml

and

density of water = 1.0 g / ml > density of ethyl acetate and < density of CH2Cl2.

thus

due to difference in density, ethyl acetate or dichloromethane can not mix with water.

Layer formation occurs among them.

when we use water and CH2Cl2 then bottom layer is CH2Cl2.

when we use ethyl acetate and water then bottom layer is water.

thus

water can not form a homogenous mixture with ethyl acetate or dichloromethane.
