3. Different procedure is there for the identification of the bicarbonate salt in a mixture.

First One: The bicarbonate salts are white in color. For example, if the unknown salt is NaHCO3 then it is white in color and powder and slippy. This is baking powder used for cooking and other purposes.

Second: These bicarbonate salts are soluble in water. Prepare a solution of the unknown salt in water and also prepare a dilute HCl solution in another test tube. Add the dilute HCL solution in another test tube where the unknown salt is present. If you observed bubbles with a high rate then you can understand there is bicarbonate salt in the unknown sample. The bubbles are the carbon dioxide which is generated from the mixture of bicarbonate salt and dilute HCl.

NaHCO3+HCl=NaCl+CO2+H2O
