8. Discuss the results of the Benedict's test. Which compounds gave a positive result, and why? Which gave a negative result, and why? Use your data and the preliminary reading material to help answer this question Use your understanding of the Benedict's test and the iodoform test to answer the following 6. Two compounds have the molecular formula C3H.O.Draw their structural formulas and names using the following test results a Compound A forms a red orange precipitate with Benedict's reagent,...
Negative Test Result Positive Test Result 335 Hepatitis C No Hepatitis C DIR (a) (2 points) Find the probability of selecting a subject with a positive test result, given that the subject does not have hepatitis C Why is this case problematic for test subjects? (b) (2 points) Find the probability of selecting a subject with a negative test result, given that the subject does not have hepatitis C. What would be an unfavorable consequence of this error? How do you MONITOR HEPARIN WITH aPTT (LOW DOSE SC HEPARIN (5000 units BID) does not require a PTT monitoring)??
Why does high stringency ensure that a positive result is the result of the probe binding to its correct target DNA rather than to non-target sequences? (Hint: How does temperature and salt concentration affect the properties of double-stranded DNA and why might this be important for hybridization?)
T.M., a 57-year-old man, has thrombophlebitis in the right lower leg. IV heparin, 5000 units by bolus, was given. Following the IV bolus, heparin 5000 units given subQ q6h was prescribed. Other therapeutic means to decrease pain and alleviate swelling and redness were also prescribed. How does heparin work and why was it prescribed? What laboratory test(s) would be monitored for patients taking heparin? Explain your answer. Explain the differences between heparin and enoxaparin. Are there advantages to either of...
