A chi-square independence test is to be conducted to decide whether an association between two variables of a populations.

Given one variable has r=6 possible values and another variable has k=8 possible values.

Therefore, degrees of freedom for chi-square statistic is:

df=(r-1)*(k-1)

=(6-1)*(8-1)

=5*7

=35

df=35
