Chemical potential (\mu) is also known as partial molar free energy. For the establishment of two phase (α and β) equilibrium, the chemical potential of one phase must be equal to other phase.

Thus, for the development of clausius clayperon equation between two phases, the chemical potential of the two phases must be equal.
