Answer #1

1.

  • Eat three meals each day. Do not skip meals.
  • Avoid junk food, go for healthy replacements.
  • Gradually increase the amount of fiber in your diet.
  • Choose more whole grain breads, cereals and rice.
  • Select more raw fruits and vegetables -- eat the peel, if appropriate.
  • Read food labels and look for the "dietary fiber" content of foods. Good sources have 2 grams of fiber or more.
  • Drink six to eight glasses of water each day.
  • Limit highly refined and processed foods.
  • Exercise regularly. Try to do weight-bearing exercise, such as walking, three or more times each week.
  • Go to sleep at a regular time each night. Make sure you get enough sleep.
  • Try to limit stress in your life.
  • Go for a short walk when you feel anxiety or stress increasing.

2.

Three days before the test, avoid some fruits and vegetables, including broccoli and turnips, Red meat, Horseradish, Vitamin C supplements and Pain relievers, such as aspirin and ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others).

The fecal occult blood test requires the collection of 3 small stool samples.

Collect a stool sample from each of two or three bowel movements in a clean container, usually taken on consecutive days

Then use an applicator stick to apply a smear of stool to a specific area of a card.

After the samples are dry, you return them to your doctor or a designated lab.

3. The self catheterization instructions for the client are as follows:

  • Wash your hands and your genital area. Use warm soapy water and wash from front to back.
  • Lubricate 2 to 4 inches of the catheter tip using water-soluble lubricating jelly
  • Place the other end of the catheter over the toilet or basin.
  • Spread the labia (the lips or folds at the opening of your vagina). Use a mirror or your index finger to find the urethra (urinary tract opening).
  • Slowly insert the catheter into your urethra. If it doesn’t go in, take a deep breath and bear down as if to trying to urinate.
  • If you feel a sharp pain, remove the catheter and try again.
  • Empty your bladder.
    • When the urine starts to flow, stop inserting the catheter.
    • When the urine stops flowing, slowly remove the catheter.

In case of using disposable catheter, use a new one each time you empty your bladder. Throw the catheter away when you’re done. If you are using disposiblecatheter, do the following after each use:

  • Wash your hands and catheter with soap and warm water.
  • Rinse the catheter, making sure there is no soap left inside or on it and dry it.
  • Store the catheter in a clean, dry container, such as a re-sealable plastic bag.
  • Throw away a catheter if the plastic looks cloudy.
  • Wash your hands again. If you used a basin, wash it out.
