Answer #1

C8H10N4O2

molar mass = [8*12.01 + 10*1.01 + 4*14.01 + 2*16] g/mol
= 194.19 g/mol

% of C = 8*12.01 g/mol/194.19 g/mol *100'
= 49.48 %
******
% of H = 10*1.01 g/mol/194.19 g/mol *100
= 5.19 %
*****
% of N = 4*14.01/194.19 g/mol *100
=28.85 %
*****
% of O = 2*16/194.19 g/mol *100 = 16.48 %
****
b)
1 mole caffeine has mass = molar mass = 194.19 g/mol
So 20.6 g Caffeine = 20.6 g/194.19 = 0.1061 mols
1 mole caffeine has [4*14.01 g] of Nitrogen
SO 0.1061 mols caffeine has 0.1061 *[4*14.01 g] of Nitrogen
= 5.945 g

mass of Nitrogen = 5.945 g
*************

2 C8H10N4O2 + 19 O2 ---> 16 CO2 + 10 H2O +4 N2

20.6 g caffeine =0.1061 mols

2 mole caffeine yields 16 mols CO2 [from balanced equation]

so 0.1061 mols caffeine yields 16/2 *0.1061 mols CO2 = 0.8488 mol

we have molar mass of CO2 = 44.01 g/mol

0.8488 mols CO2 has mass = 0.8488 *44.01 g = 37.35 g

mass of CO2 produced = 37.35 g
