Reflection on class: Health Data Content and Structure

1. Throughout the course, what has been the most difficult concept for you and why?

2. Throughout the course, what has been a concept that you grasped more easily than others? Do you have any tips/tricks to share with your fellow classmates?

One of the focuses throughout the course has been the various stakeholders involved in the healthcare process. Ultimately, the most important stakeholder is the patient. Without patients, there is no business, no job, and no need for healthcare information management. But, as most of us know, working with patients in the healthcare industry, regardless of what extent you are working with them, can be tasking and challenging at times. So, share a time where either, you were dealing with a patient (or customer of some sort, possibly even outside of healthcare) and they were challenging, difficult, and/or downright unpleasant to deal with? How did you handle it? Did you handle it appropriately? Would you handle it differently now? And, what advice do you have to your fellow classmates for dealing with difficult people in a professional setting.

Answer #1

Answer: The health data content and structure is a course whose main purpose is to make students familiar with the profession of health information management and the basic concepts of health records. After studying this course many of the healthcare concepts has been clear, as for me it has established the knowledge and the information about the health data. Many particular words and their meaning has been easily understood after reading the chapters such as comorbidities which means a medical condition that coexists with the affects the patient's treatment and length of stay and the primary cause for hospitalization.

The concepts related to the health data content and structure has been clearly explained, all the health-related terms such as Medicare, Medicaid, EHR and other specific terms has been explained so that these terms could be more familiar during the practice. The benefit of this course is that it consists of set of common procedures or a common protocol that would benefit a specific community.

Handling patients is one of the difficult tasks when it comes to some of the stubborn ones. They do not want to understand from the doctor's or healthcare professional's point of view. Making them understand about the complications and not doing thing that may arise a problem for them.
