Thinking or cognitive whether emotional or logical is done by the brain's interpretation and it's way to decide what to be done in a situation to handle it effectively.

For instance

A pediatric patient admitted to the hospital needs an invasive procedure for making a diagnosis. This can be emotional disturbances to the parents as well as the professionals because a small child to under go a invasive procedure which can be painful but at this time a logical thinking has to be made because without that particular test the treatment cannot be initiated. Hence the logical thinking wins here to save the life of the child.
