1. What are a biological species? What is speciation? Discuss the relationship between species and speciation.

3. Which is the most accurate way to determine population size? Describe two different methods for estimating population size. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of estimates.

4. You are responsible for determining the population size of butterflies. On day 1 you capture and mark 120 butterflies. On day 2 you capture 90 butterflies, 30 of which were previously marked on day 1. How many individuals are in the population?

5. Distinguish between Batesian and Mullerian mimicry. Provide examples of both.

1. Biological species = is define as," Is a group of individuals that can breed together,they can not breed with other groups i.e.they are reproductively isolated from other groups."

"a biological species is a group of organisms that can potentially interbreed or mate,with one another to produce viable ,fertile offspring.

Speciation = is defined as,"a process within evolution that leads to the formation of new,distinct species that are reproductively isolated from one another."

"speciation is the process by which new species form.It occurs when groups in a species become reproductively isolated and diverge."

Example -Galapagos finch-is an example of allopatric speciation.

Relationship between species and speciation =

- species arise through a process called as speciation.In speciation,an ancestral species splits into two or more descendant species that are genetically different from one another and can no longer interbreed.

speciation leads to the formation of new,distinct species that are reproductively isolated.
