You have been smoking since you were at university and you estimate that you currently smoke between 30-40 cigarettes a day. You love to catch up with your friends at the pub for a smoke and a drink as you say it helps you relax. You have tried to stop smoking on a number of occasions, with limited success as you suffer badly from nicotine withdrawal. Your father recently died of lung cancer at age 68 after many years of smoking. In his final stages of cancer, Donald was in a great deal of pain and distress. You are worried that if you keep smoking like this, you will end up with lung cancer like your dad.

Smoking is a very highly additive activity. Nicotine is a chemical present in the tobacco products which is responsible for the addiction. More than 250 types of chemicals present in the tobacco products can be considered as carcinogens. They include acetaldehyde, aromatic amines, benzenes, formaldehydes etc.

Smoking and health problems:

A variety of health problems you may suffer while smoking. Smoking of just one cigerette per day can cause various smoking related cancers like Lung, bladder and pancreatic cancers. smoking can diminish a person's overall health.

Benefits of quitting smoking.

You can experience immediate and long term benefits on quitting smoking.

Immediate benefits include the lowering of blood pressure in your blood which was high during the smoking. Same way the heart rate can also lowered on those smokers. Within fews weeks of quiting the smoking your blood circulation may get improved. The ability of blood to carry oxygen is significantly increases because the smokers may have carbon monoxide in their blood which will decrease the oxygen carrying capacity of blood. After few months of quitting the smoking habit your lung capacity will be enhanced significantly. Thus by quitting smoking, after few years you will experience a very peaceful condition both physically and mentally and the chances of getting various risky disease like cancer and other chronic disease is lowered.

There are also various long term health benefits on quitting smoking. According to the study the peoples who stop smoking before their 40s are less likely to get smoking related disease. you may have a great expectancy of your life than those who continue to smoke. You should always keep in mind that quitting smoking reduces a life threatening disease like cancer and other related disease.

Remember that you are not too late to get the benefits of quitting smoking. This is your grates opportunity to stop smoking in this youngest age itself because the premature death due to smoking is directly related to the number of years a person smokes. so you have this privelage if you stop in this age.
