This written assignment will consist of two parts. The first part will include a discussion on the understanding and importance of cultural diversity in the medical field and how to overcome possible cultural barriers to improve patient care and outcomes. The second part of the written assignment will provide you further practice at creating and formatting a patient letter summarizing clinical results.

Part 01: Interacting with Culturally Diverse Patients

Mrs. Abdul, a devoted Muslim, has recently emigrated from the Middle East to live with her daughter and son-in-law. The Abdul family are patients at the clinic you work at as a Medical Administrative Assistant for about 4 months now. In that time, you have noticed that Mrs. Abdul has arrived late for all of her appointments to date. She has arrived late for her appointment today and seemed reluctant to answer many of the questions that are being asked to her. Also, it is observed that Mrs. Abdul allows her daughter to speak for her most of the time. Based on some preliminary testing that was conducted, Dr. Jones is concerned that Mrs. Abdul may have cancer, but must do some further diagnostic testing to be sure.

Requirements

In 1-2 pages with the use of a minimum of two credible resources, discuss the importance of understanding cultural differences in the medical environment and how they can improve patient care and outcomes. Then discuss methods how to resolve the communication barrier between the doctor and Mrs. Abdul to allow for further diagnostic testing, importance of arriving on time for appointments, and highlight possible complications to overcome to ultimately improve patient care and outcomes for Mrs. Abdul.

Part 02: Writing Professional Correspondence

You will practice writing a professional correspondence to a patient summarizing the results of their recent visit and the doctor’s recommendations. The requirements of your letter are:

• Block or modified block format
• Indented paragraphs
• 1-2 paragraphs in length
• Include current date
• Letter addressed to patient: Monica Peters
• Letter signed by doctor: Julia D. Mallard, MD

Take the following data/information and format it into complete sentences summarizing the results of Mrs. Peters’ recent visit and her doctor’s recommendations in 1-2 paragraphs within your letter.

Make sure you include of the following data/information in your letter:

• Clinical Data to include
  • Hemoglobin A1C results were within normal limits from recent visit
  • Test results of Hemoglobin A1C were 6.8%
  • Desired results would be a value less than 7.0%
• Type II diabetes is under control
• Current dosage of Glucotrol XL of 5mg/day is appropriate and should be continued
• Glucotrol XL prescription is enclosed for continued use
• Repeat Hemoglobin A1C test in 6 months

PART FIRST :::::::::Understanding cultural difference in the health care field is essential because many people come in a hospital with various traditions and customs.They face a lot of problems to cope with the surrounding which is new to them.culture includes many things such as language,beliefs,and action.Even it explains what people eat and speak and also ,How they care others and themselves.Thus,health care worker should know how to care a patient inorder to get comfort and homely environment.For which the respected institution should conduct awareness class for health care workers to know the importance of respecting others culture and the role of their own culture in therapeutic relationships.There will not be any negligence When an organization tailor their engagement strategies,care,and materials fit their patients beliefs,attitude and needs.As a result patient understands care, and co-operate with every one for better treatment.Moreover,the get interested to give answers whenever ask questions to them by a staff or doctor. Inorder to improve communication between doctor and mrs.abdul,the doctor should take intimate to start talking to her as she may afraid of hospital environment or doctor.Make her feel that there is nothing to worry for which doctors should start talking to patients about her whereabouts to warmup her.Make her understand that he cares for her health issue and he can assist her to get rid of from the situation.Try to respect her choice and beliefs through which she feels free to talk .When she starts to speak normally he can give information about the importance of doing follow up and the need of conducting tests.Doctoe should explain the consequences that can happen if she do not follow the instructions.knowledgeble and open reference from the care giver can increase the confidence of the patient and she will definitely fill the instructions given by her consultant. PART SECOND::::::::To, mrs.monica peter.    I would like to inform you about your recent follow up visit in the hospital and also about the investigations which were done during the visit.Doctor went through your results and he found that heamoglobin A1c results were with in normal level from recent follow up.it was 6.8% and normal value is ranged below 7.0%your diabetes is control over the medicine so that ,it should be continued as same dosage(glucotrol cl 5mg/day).    Kindly notice that prescription of gucotrol XL is enclosed for continued use.And remember to repeat Hb A1C test in six month of period.Through which we can make sure more about the dosage of medication.If it will be controlled then you may not need to take medicine.You can control it by diet.so,please repeat the test as mentioned by me.If,you have any queries or changes occur kindly feel free to contact in our office.
