You add 1 drop of HCl and 5 drops of bromide-bromate solution (10:1 KBr:KBrO3) to each tube. Predict the order in which the color of the solutions in the tube should chance (reaction occurs) and justify.

Bromination takes place via free radical substitution reaction .

Stability order of free radical is 3° > 2° > 1 °

Benzylic free radicals are more stable than aliphatic free radicals .

Reactivity order is :

(Least reactive )

Cyclohexane < methylcyclohexane < toluene < ethylbenzene < cumene . (Most reactive )

The most reactive will observe color change faster .
